Kakwasi is a prolific journal writer, penning observations about everyday people that provide substance for the fiction and creative nonfiction that she writes.
She earned an MFA in Creative Writing as part of her journey to settle into the writing life in retirement and take those drylongso observations to higher levels. Since then, she’s published a novel, Coming Forth by Day, and a children’s book, Let’s Meditate: This is how we do it. Her fiction has appeared in Flash Fiction Magazine, in the Killens Review of Arts and Letters, and in the Colonial Heights Library Newsletter.
Although retired, she still teaches writing occasionally as an adjunct instructor at Cosumnes River College. To stay in touch with young writers, she helped organize Califa Lit Collective, a creative writing group of Sacramento Valley area BIPOC community college students.
