Anara Guard

Anara Guard is a poet and novelist whose mother named her after a character in a modern fairy tale. Her debut novel, LIKE A COMPLETE UNKNOWN (New Wind Publishing, 2022), won Book of the Year Honorable Mention from the Chicago Writers Association as well as other accolades. Her stories and essays have been published as a New York Times Tiny Love Story, in “Persimmon Tree,” “On the Seawall,” “Gold Man Review,” “Under the Gum Tree,” and elsewhere.

Her poems have received multiple awards, including a Pushcart Prize nomination. Her most recent poetry collection, KANSAS, REIMAGINED (The Poetry Box, 2024) gives voice to L. Frank Baum’s characters as they might have lived in Kansas. She lives in Sacramento with her partner and yard dragon and has just completed her second novel.
