A Major Literary Event Returns to Sacramento, & It’s Going to Be Even Better in 2026!
In the spring of 2024, a few folks from the California Writers Club – Sacramento Branch got together with an idea to do something amazing – to bring a book festival to the greater Sacramento Valley. We held the 2025 Sacramento Book Festival on May 31st, 2025 at the Shepard Garden and Arts Center in McKinley Park.
We’re now busy planning the 2026 festival! Our new venue is the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in East Sacramento, just a couple blocks north of Sacramento State University at the entrance to River Park. The new venue is a big improvement in a number of ways:
- It’s five times larger than the Shepard Garden and Arts Center, which gives us room for more authors, a dedicated kids room with authors and activities, and two rooms for panels and workshops.
- Almost everything will be indoors, and we’re a month earlier than in 2025, so it should be much more comfortable weather-wise. The venue also has great air conditioning.
- The venue also has great parking – over five-hundred spaces on-site.
- We’ll have multiple food trucks this year and outdoor seating.

The California Writers Club (CWC), Sacramento Branch shall foster professionalism in writing, promote networking of writers with the writing community, mentor new writers, and provide literary support for writers and the writing community as is appropriate through education and leadership.
The club supports all genres, writing styles, and related professions such as editing, publishing, photographic journalism, and literary agents.
CWC Sacramento Branch will provide an environment where members can obtain critique of their efforts, attend workshops, and share experiences. CWC Sacramento Branch endeavors to mentor writers of all ages by providing educational programs for adults and fostering youth programs, including providing qualified speakers experienced in various writing-related disciplines at monthly membership meetings.
